A Life SO Ordinary Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004 Well yesterday (Monday) we got Muddy's ashes from the crematorium. My dad has started work on the wooden box we'll put him in. He's got pretty walnut and we decided not to bury him because someday my parents will end up moving and we dont wanna have to dig him up after putting him to rest (sort of). so yea. Today was kinda like another hit in the head that hes REALLY gone. I hope that he's happy where ever he is. I'm not sure about a dog heaven. I know that dogs dream so I figure that if a creature has dreams he must have some kind of soul, huh? well it keeps me kinda happy to think he's up there running again; driving my grandma mad at trying to keep him still. My friend Sam got me a card and a thoughtful gift of quotes on man's best friend. I'm gonna put down a few that really hit home for me. The fidelity of a dog is a precious gift One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why. Money will buy you a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of its tail. Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole. I've seen a look in dogs' eyes, a quickly vanishing look of amazed contempt, and I am convinced that basically dogs think humans are nuts. The dog is a gentleman; I hope to go to his heaven, not man's. Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring-it was peace. I myself have known some profoundly thoughtful dogs. It is fatal to let any dog know that he is funny, for he immediately loses his head and starts hamming it up. If a dog will not come to you having looked you in the face, you should go home and examine your conscience. Children and dogs are as necessary to the welfare of the country as Wall Street and the railroads. It's impossible to keep a straight face in the presence of one or more puppies. The dog was created specially for children. He is the god of frolic. No man can be condemned for owning a dog. As long as he has a dog, he has a friend. You think dogs will not be in heaven? |
